Milan to honour Franco Baresi with tribute before Inter friendly

Milan will pay tribute to Franco Baresi before this week's pre-season friendly against Inter, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Baresi spent close to 50 years at the club, and his death has left a mark that no pre-season fixture was going to pass over quietly. The setting matters too, a friendly against Inter, the derby opponent he faced so many times as the eternal captain.

The tribute will open with a minute's silence, during which moments from Baresi's career will be shown on the big screen. A message in his memory will also be displayed on the sidelines.

A choreography is planned as well, with the Milan Club Perth working to bring a banner honouring the former captain. The players, meanwhile, will wear a black armband for the match.

The gestures in Australia are only the start. Once the squad returns to Italy, further plans are expected, including the possible renaming of the training ground in Baresi's honour.

For a club that leans on its history as heavily as Milan does, the tributes abroad are a first word, with the lasting one still to come at home.
