Goncalo Ramos marked his home debut with his first Milan goal against Venezia, though the striker was quick to admit he should have added to it on a night of missed chances.
The club-record signing endured a difficult opening hour at San Siro, spurning a string of clear openings, including a one-on-one he sent straight at the goalkeeper. His persistence eventually paid off, and he collected the Player of the Match award before speaking to DAZN.
On finally breaking his duck in front of the home crowd, Ramos put the result first. “A wonderful feeling, but the most important thing is the victory. I’m happy with the second victory,” he said, in comments carried by MilanNews.
He did not shy away from the chances he wasted before finding the net. “It could have been, but I had to score on those chances, also because when I have so many I should score even more than one,” he admitted.
Asked about the group taking shape under the coach, Ramos pointed to a shared identity in the dressing room. “I think you can see our DNA, our mentality. We want to have fun, play football, but win every game. It’s easy to be here, not just for the Portuguese in the team, but also for my other teammates.”
Pressed on whether a team dinner was owed after his first goal, he kept it light: “Yes, I’ll take the team out sooner or later.”
For the man Milan spent record money on, the goal is a start and the self-criticism a better sign still. A striker who beats himself up over the ones he missed on a winning night is exactly the sort the Rossoneri paid for.
