Amorim is working out how to get the most from Luka Modric without overloading him, with the Croatian set to be rotated through the season, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The plan was flagged before Modric even signed. His arrival was one of the summer's headline moves, but the expectation was always that he would be handled with care rather than thrown into every fixture. So far that has held true, with 108 minutes across the campaign to this point.
The reasoning is straightforward. Modric turns 41 in a few days, and Amorim wants to protect him rather than lean on him week to week. That means sitting out matches, with the Europa League named as one of the competitions where he is likely to be rested.
The rotation runs through Ardon Jashari, who studied Modric closely last season and is now expected to share the load. The Swiss midfielder's development is central to the idea working. Yunus Musah is another option to step in, while Christian Comotto is also in the picture as cover.
Modric's own form has moved with his fitness. He was below his usual level against Venezia, misplacing more passes than normal and covering a lot of ground, though that is understandable given he returned to training less than a month ago. Against Torino he looked far closer to himself, and Milan's best spells came with him on the pitch.
That sets up the decision on Sunday. Milan face Juventus in their first big test of the season, and a win would stretch their lead at the top of Serie A. It is exactly the kind of fixture where a player of Modric's quality would normally start, but Amorim has to balance that against the longer plan for his minutes.
From here, the call sits with Amorim, and how he reads the trade-off between winning a summit clash now and keeping his 41-year-old fresh for the months ahead.
