Christian Comotto is set to sign a new five-year contract with Milan today, running until June 2031, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The renewal reads as a direct response to a mistake Milan don't want to make twice. Last summer Mattia Liberali walked away from the academy and picked Como over a return to the Rossoneri, a talent lost for nothing. Tying Comotto down long-term is the club protecting the value of its own youth production rather than watching another product of Milanello drift off on a free.
Romano reports that Comotto is viewed as an important part of the future project, and Gianluca Di Marzio confirms the deal will be formalised at Casa Milan this afternoon. The 2008-born midfielder came through the academy and has just completed his first senior season on loan at Spezia in Serie B, useful minutes at a young age against grown men.
There's a first-team angle too. Comotto will train with the senior squad through the opening part of preseason under Ruben Amorim, who will then decide the right next step, whether that's staying in the group or another loan to keep building.
The obvious question is whether a 17-year-old actually has a route into this midfield, and for now the honest answer is that the contract matters more than the minutes. Milan are securing the asset first. What Amorim does with him from there is the story to follow.
