Koni De Winter has framed the season ahead as a title chase, telling reporters that Milan are "under pressure to win titles and the league."
The defender spoke alongside Ruben Amorim at a press conference this morning, in one of his first extended appearances since joining the group. His words fit the mood around the club, where the target has shifted back towards the Scudetto after seasons spent hovering between top-four hopes and disappointment.
De Winter, back with the squad for seven days, described the return as a straightforward one despite the tactical changes under Amorim. "It was nice to come back and see my teammates and the new players," he said. "There's a new coach, the way of playing has changed a little, but it's our job to adapt and give our best."
Amorim's adjustments to the defensive line are part of that adaptation, and De Winter kept his answer on the subject brief, repeating that the priority is to adjust to the new system and perform.
On the club's ambitions, he did not soften the expectation. "I haven't been here long, but I think Milan is under pressure to win titles and the league," he said. "We're working towards that, and it's a great feeling that we're working towards big goals and that people expect so much from us."
Asked about his own aims, De Winter pointed to his role within the group rather than personal numbers. "For me, the important thing is to help the team in the best way possible and listen to the coach. This is my goal for this season."
For a defender still learning Amorim's demands, embracing the weight of a title race rather than shrinking from it is the right first note to strike.
