Milan will not sign a central midfielder for the 2026-27 season, with Ruben Amorim deciding to keep the group he already has, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The decision draws a line under weeks of speculation. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Yunus Musah and Samuele Ricci had all been linked with the exit door, but none of those situations ever moved past the rumour stage, and Gazzetta reports there is nothing concrete to suggest they will.
That leaves the midfield settled, wing-back roles aside. The trio stay on alongside Ardon Jashari, Luka Modrić, Christian Comotto and Adrien Rabiot, giving Amorim a full complement of options through the centre.
The plan, as the pink newspaper lays it out, is to use Loftus-Cheek and possibly Rabiot in a slightly more advanced role. That would leave Modrić, Ricci, Comotto and Jashari competing for the two central berths, with Musah deployed across several positions depending on the demands of a given match.
Keeping Loftus-Cheek is the eyebrow-raiser here, given his contract expires next summer. Amorim has been won over by the Englishman's application in training and rates him as a genuine asset, particularly in that advanced midfield position. Musah earns his place through pace and ball-carrying, while Ricci offers the reliability Amorim wants at the base.
Holding on to a player entering the final year of his deal carries an obvious risk: without a renewal, Loftus-Cheek could walk for nothing in 2026. For now, that is a call Amorim has made on footballing grounds, and the next move belongs to the club and the player over his future.
