Gila ruled out of Inter friendly as Pulisic and Gimenez continue treatment at Milanello

Mario Gila will not feature in Wednesday's derby against Inter at Optus Stadium in Perth, with Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez both absent from the Australian tour as they recover from injury, according to MilanNews.

The pre-season friendly against the neroazzurri comes with Milan still managing a handful of fitness concerns, and the summer's marquee defensive signing is among them.

Gila, who joined permanently from Lazio this summer for around €30m, was forced off on 25 July in the first friendly against Celtic in Glasgow. Tests taken immediately afterwards ruled out anything serious, returning only a strained right rectus femoris.

The Spaniard travelled to Australia with the rest of the squad but has trained individually throughout, including more personalised work in the latest session. He is feeling better, though he will not be risked in the derby having not yet rejoined group training.

Milan's medical staff intend to give him all the time he needs rather than push for a quicker return and risk a more serious muscle problem.

Pulisic and Gimenez, meanwhile, did not make the trip at all, both nursing injuries picked up during the World Cup. The American has a hairline fracture to his right fibula with accompanying bone edema, while the Mexican is dealing with a sprained ankle.

Both forwards are undergoing treatment and therapy at Milanello. Once they are back in Italy, the medical staff will reassess their recovery to judge whether either has any chance of facing Torino in the season opener on 23 August.

With Gila still weeks off full training and both attackers working through World Cup issues, the Torino date is the fixture that now matters for Allegri's planning.
