Ardon Jashari has set out his hopes for a bigger role at Milan under Ruben Amorim, telling Gazzetta dello Sport that consistent minutes are what he needs after a debut season wrecked by injury and limited opportunities.
Jashari arrived last summer to plenty of expectation but rarely featured, with Luka Modrić anchoring the midfield and Massimiliano Allegri reluctant to use the Swiss international in a more advanced role. Amorim's arrival, and the high-intensity approach he wants, has reset the picture.
Speaking to the media on the same morning as Amorim, Jashari said the new coach's ideas suit him. "I've only recently arrived, but I think I've at least partially grasped the style of play he wants to propose. I like high-intensity football, and I think we can implement it because we have the quality. AC Milan must play this way and win," he said.
On the shift from Allegri's Milan, he was careful to show respect for his former coach. "Everyone has their own way of playing, and I have great respect for Allegri, a coach who has won six league titles in Italy. If we press high and try to control the game, I have a good feeling."
The 23-year-old was direct about the season's target, while stopping short of Scudetto talk. "To win lots of matches. In fact, to win every match, because that's the mentality we need to take to the pitch. If we do that, we'll be top of the table. But now isn't the time to talk about the Scudetto: we need to build a winning mentality and enjoy playing football."
His first year was cut short by a fibula injury, and Jashari made clear what he wants from 2026-27. "Now I just want to express myself to the fullest, and to do that, I need an opportunity and consistency so I can show what I'm capable of. When I'm at my best, I'm sure I'll make the fans happy and help the team with my skills."
The question that follows him is whether he can play alongside Modrić rather than behind him in the queue, especially after the Croatian renewed. Jashari insisted it is not a concern. "It's absolutely not a problem for me. In fact, it's great news. We should all be proud to have someone like him on the team. I have a really great relationship with Luka off the pitch: I hope we'll play more together this year and have a good understanding."
He pointed to the recent friendly against Inter in Perth as evidence the pairing can work. "In Belgium, I played with a teammate very close to me, in midfield, and I got along well. In Perth against Inter, I think I was able to make some movements, with and without the ball, thanks to Modrić's presence at my side."
Jashari also addressed the summer interest, with Atalanta and Juventus both linked during the World Cup. "I joined Milan a year ago and I realised a dream because my heart has always been Rossoneri. I wanted with all my heart to wear this jersey and show my qualities at San Siro," he said, adding that he expects the club to share his commitment.
Two years ago Jashari was among the standout midfielders in the Champions League with Club Brugge, and this season he faces Milan's continental campaign in the Europa League instead. Whether he becomes a regular partner for Modrić or another squad option waiting on minutes is now down to how Amorim uses him.
