Rafael Leao is now willing to listen to Galatasaray, and Milan have set a minimum price of €60m to let him go, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreMilan).
This is the clearest sign yet that seven years are ending. Leao has been the face of the project since 2019, the man who dragged Milan to the 2022 Scudetto, and clubs of his profile do not usually leave for €60m. But the number is the story. Against a €175m release clause, a €60m asking price is Milan admitting the relationship has run its course and pricing the player to move rather than to keep. He has already stripped the Milan reference from his Instagram bio, which tells you where his head is.
The player himself has shifted. Leao had reportedly ruled out anything outside the Premier League or LaLiga, yet no club from either has actually contacted his representatives with a concrete offer. Saudi money still doesn't appeal to him. Turkey now does, and Galatasaray are pushing hardest, ready to meet his wage demands and put a real proposal on Milan's desk.
The awkward part for anyone hoping for a reset is that the barrier isn't language. Rafa never clicked with Paulo Fonseca or Sergio Conceicao despite the shared Portuguese, and with Ruben Amorim the problem is tactical. A wide forward who lives on the touchline and needs space to run into is a difficult fit for a 3-4-2-1 that asks its front players to combine in tight areas. Amorim, another Sporting product, may share a passport and a background with Leao, but he isn't building his attack around him.
On the structure of any deal, La Gazzetta report a loan is possible, though Milan would want protection. The likeliest version is a paid loan with an obligation to buy, a large upfront fee that works as a down payment, with the permanent transfer completed in summer 2027. That guarantees Milan get their money, which is the whole point right now.
The reason the sale matters is the spending. The club-record capture of Goncalo Ramos at over €70m, plus Mario Gila at the back, has already taken Milan past €100m this window. Selling Leao, and likely one or two others, is how the books get balanced and how the squad gets finished off in the positions still needing work.
Before any of that, there's a strange bit of timing. Leao, Ramos and the eliminated Portugal contingent are due in Perth to join the squad after their post-tournament break, which means Leao may well meet Amorim face to face just as his exit gathers pace. Whether that changes anything is doubtful.
