Leão shoots down Fenerbahçe rumour: “My pre-season is about to begin”

Rafael Leão has publicly dismissed talk of an imminent move to Fenerbahçe, replying to a social media graphic linking him to Turkey by insisting he is simply getting ready for pre-season.

This one matters because Leão is the most valuable asset Milan have, and how his summer plays out shapes the entire mercato. The Portuguese has made little secret of his openness to a new challenge, and with the Premier League interest he craved failing to materialise into a concrete offer, agents and outlets have started floating alternative homes for him. Turkey is the latest.

The rumour came from DAZN Portugal, who posted an image pairing Leão with the Fenerbahçe crest and the claim that he was about to sign. Leão replied on Instagram with a pointed correction: “My pre-season is about to begin*”. No flight to Istanbul, then. Instead he is due to link up with his teammates in Australia on Wednesday, ahead of the pre-season friendly against Inter.

For context, this is a player Milan value in the region of €80-90m, and a Fenerbahçe move at that price was always more noise than substance. Selling Leão to the Saudi or Turkish market at a discount would be a strange way to raise funds for a squad that needs strengthening in several areas.

An exit before the window shuts can’t be ruled out, and Leão himself has kept that door ajar all summer. But until a club meets Milan’s valuation, he remains a Milan player, and the only sensible move is to treat him as one. For now the ball stays in Milan’s court, and nobody is buying at the price they’d accept.
