Jorge Mendes is expected back at Milan today for another meeting, with the sale of Rafael Leão now the priority after wrapping up Diego Moreira's arrival, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Moreira's signing is the clearest sign yet that Milan have shifted how they operate in the mercato. The Belgian landed at Linate Prime shortly before noon on Wednesday, and his time as a Rossonero begins officially today once the contract is signed and the photoshoot at Casa Milan is done.
The 20-year-old completed his medical on Wednesday, spending around three hours at the La Madonnina clinic before travelling to Varese for his fitness test. The deal is worth €45m plus substantial add-ons, with Moreira set to earn just over €3m net per year on a contract running until 2031.
Ruben Amorim fully backed the move, and the tactical logic points to Moreira being used mainly as a left-sided wing-back, where his pace and ability in one-on-one situations fit the system. With Samuel Chukwueze a candidate on the opposite flank, the shape reads as an attacking one, leaving Amorim to find the balance that lets all of it work.
The same agent behind Moreira, Mendes, who also delivered Gonçalo Ramos, is now central to the other story on Milan's desk. There is agreement inside the club on the Leão saga, with both Amorim and Gerry Cardinale, who arrives in Italy on Friday, viewing the Portuguese as a player on his way out.
The situation carries an irony. Leão was the one who first opened the door with his repeated comments in late May and early June about his time at Milan coming to an end, yet the major offers he wanted have not arrived.
Interest has been thin. It has come mainly from Turkey, where Galatasaray have pushed harder than Fenerbahçe, but they have yet to make a decisive move and the doubts are mounting by the day. Gala are also looking elsewhere, most notably at Noa Lang, who spent the first half of the year on loan in Turkey.
Leão is still holding out for England, with the Chelsea route tied to Pedro Neto's possible departure remaining complicated but not dead. There is movement in Saudi Arabia too, and Gazzetta's sense is that this one could run to the very end of the window.
He is not the only name Milan hope to move on. RB Leipzig and Newcastle are tracking Christopher Nkunku, talks with Porto over Santiago Giménez have slowed after a first offer of a loan with a €15m option was rejected, and Youssouf Fofana has strong interest from Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.
With Mendes in the building again and Cardinale arriving Friday, the people who decide Leão's future are all in the same room this week.
