Milan are accelerating efforts to offload Ruben Amorim's outcasts, with Jorge Mendes drafted in to mediate Santiago Gimenez's stalled move to Porto.
During a summit today between Gerry Cardinale and Amorim, the focus shifted to the so-called bomb squad. The coach recently excluded Fikayo Tomori, Youssouf Fofana, Christopher Nkunku and Gimenez from matchday squads and group training, making it clear they have no future at the club under his management.
According to MilanNews, the Rossoneri are working to finalise the exits. Negotiations with Porto over Gimenez had hit a standstill, but Mendes has now been brought in to try and salvage an agreement. No fee was disclosed in the report, leaving the financial gap between the two clubs unclear.
There is optimism that a suitable suitor will emerge for Fofana in the closing days, though the midfielder has indicated he will only sanction a transfer if the move is right for him. The situation surrounding Tomori is more difficult. As things stand, no concrete options have surfaced for the English defender.
Ostracising four players from the main group forces the issue, but it also leaves the squad carrying dead weight if buyers do not materialise before the deadline.
With the window closing fast, Milan need Mendes to bridge the gap with Porto, a suitor to meet Fofana's demands, and a late taker to emerge for Tomori.
