Milan and Porto are aiming to wrap up the transfer of Santiago Gimenez soon, possibly in a meeting scheduled for today.
The move takes a striker off Milan's books who arrived with high expectations and never settled. Gimenez started brightly after his big-money switch from Feyenoord, but the goals dried up, and the arrival of Goncalo Ramos has now pushed him towards the exit.
Speaking on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto delivered the latest on the negotiations and sounded confident the deal is close to done. Moretto had said over the weekend that Gimenez was 'one step away' from becoming a Porto player, so progress since then has been slower than that language suggested.
The factor now driving things forward is Porto's sale of Mora, a player who had himself been linked with Milan. With that business concluded, the Portuguese side is expected to move quickly to finalise Gimenez.
Milan paid a significant fee to bring the 25-year-old to San Siro on the back of a strong record at Feyenoord, where he scored 65 goals in 105 appearances across all competitions. His time with the Rossoneri told a different story: after a promising start, he failed to find a single league goal across 2025-26.
The exact terms of the deal to Porto have not been disclosed.
