Milan want to sell both Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek this summer to raise more than €30m, but neither exit is anywhere near done, according to Calciomercato.com.
This is where a squad clear-out meets reality. Milan need sales to fund the rebuild, and moving on two Chelsea alumni on healthy wages would clear space and generate cash in one go. The problem is that a sale needs a willing buyer and a willing player, and right now Milan are short of both on one front and short of the player on the other. The move that started all this was the arrival of Mario Gila from Lazio for around €30m, which pushed Tomori to the bottom of the centre-back order under Amorim.
Tomori is the one who wants out. Calciomercato.com report he travelled with the squad to Glasgow for the friendly against Celtic, phone in hand, waiting on his agents to bring something worthwhile. Coventry, Hull, West Ham and Newcastle are all credited with interest, though that's a wide spread of ambition, from Championship sides to a Champions League club, which tells you no concrete offer has landed yet. He's after the right move both financially and for his career after years as a first-choice at San Siro.
The Loftus-Cheek situation is the real snag. The midfielder believes he can win minutes under Amorim and is comfortable running his deal down. He isn't leaning on his agents to find him a club, and a player who doesn't want to leave is almost impossible to sell at the price you want. Both contracts run to 2027, which gives Milan a little leverage but not much, since two years is close enough to make a cut-price exit the likely outcome if the standoff drags on.
For the record, Tomori cost €28.5m from Chelsea in 2021, so recouping a chunk of that now would still be reasonable business. The bigger question is Loftus-Cheek, and until he decides he wants a new challenge, Milan's €30m target stays exactly that, a target. Amorim and the player hold the pen on this one.
