Milan will meet Monza in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia, after the Brianza side booked their place with a win over Torino on Tuesday evening.
The tie was settled at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino in the round of 32, with Monza coming through against a Torino side now managed by Ignazio Abate, who has lost three of his first four games of the season. It sets up a familiar fixture for the Rossoneri, whose Coppa Italia meetings with Monza stretch back decades.
This will be the eighth time the two clubs have faced each other in the competition. Milan hold the advantage in that history, with six wins to one defeat, and every previous meeting fell between 1957 and 1988.
The path beyond the last-16 is already mapped out. Should Milan get through Monza, they would face the winner of Como and Cremonese in the quarter-final. The semi-final could then bring either Inter or Bologna, the latter being the team that beat the Rossoneri in the 2025 final in Rome.
For a side chasing silverware on multiple fronts, a winnable draw against lower opposition is the kind of start Milan will take.
