Milan are looking at Pierre-Emile Højbjerg as an option to strengthen their midfield, according to Corriere dello Sport and QS.
This is where Milan's window naturally points next. Having already sorted the attack with Goncalo Ramos and the defence with Mario Gila, roughly €100m committed between the two, the midfield is the department still waiting for its reinforcement. It also explains why the incoming side of things has gone quiet lately: with that kind of outlay, the management's short-term energy has been on trimming the wage bill and moving players out before adding another salary.
Højbjerg fits the profile Milan tend to reach for when they want stability rather than flash. The 30-year-old Denmark international spent last season on loan at Marseille from Tottenham, and the reports suggest he could leave the French side, which opens the door. He brings volume, Premier League and international mileage, and the kind of defensive discipline a young midfield can lean on.
There is a neat piece of history here too. The last midfielder Milan pulled out of Marseille was Ismaël Bennacer, and that one worked out rather well before his form and fitness tailed off. Whether Højbjerg would be a starter or a steadying presence off the bench is the question, and at 30 he is closer to the latter stage of his career than a long-term project.
The papers also flag interest from MLS in Christian Pulisic, with QS reporting that Milan have no intention of letting the American go. That stance makes sense given how central he was to the attack last season, and it reads more as noise than a live situation for now.
