Milan stand to bank €15m if Tijjani Reijnders completes a move from Manchester City to Al-Qadsiah, with a deal now said to be closing in.
When the Rossoneri sold Reijnders to City, the fee came with add-ons attached, and the sell-on structure means a further departure now triggers money owed back to Milan. A resale barely a year on activates the remainder of those bonuses in full.
According to The Athletic, City are in advanced talks to sell the Dutchman for €60m to Al-Qadsiah, the Saudi club where Italy striker Mateo Retegui now plays. The report describes the negotiations between the two clubs as advanced, with confidence the transfer will be wrapped up in the coming days.
The backdrop at City is one of heavy turnover. After Enzo Maresca replaced Pep Guardiola, the club spent €135m on Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and Reijnders has slipped down the order as a result.
Forest are the other side keeping tabs on Reijnders, as Fabrizio Romano reported, and they must now decide whether to table a concrete bid. The player, meanwhile, has to sanction a switch to the Middle East. Elsewhere in Manchester, Rodri looks bound for Barcelona, City have signed Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, and Maresca is chasing both Enzo Fernández and Pedro Neto.
For Milan, the mechanics are simple: if Reijnders leaves this summer, City are obliged to pay out the full amount of bonuses still due, worth €15m to the Rossoneri.
From here, the money depends on two men saying yes: Reijnders on the destination, and City on the fee with Al-Qadsiah.
