Milan have opened negotiations with Porto over a move for Santiago Gimenez this summer, with a loan looking the most likely route out.
The striker's time at the club has never taken off, and this is the second window running in which he has drifted towards the exit. Last summer he was all but pushed out; this time the departure looks more mutual, with all sides working towards a fresh start for him elsewhere.
According to Matteo Moretto, talks between Porto and the Rossoneri are already under way. His current injury has not stalled the process, with everyone involved keen to line up a move he can pick up once he is fit again.
From Mexico, Cesar Luis Merlo describes the negotiations as being at an advanced stage. The likeliest structure at present is a loan with an option to buy, though Milan would prefer either a loan with an obligation or an outright fee now.
The financial calculation is straightforward for Milan. Given how last season went, offloading a striker who never built on his early promise for only a minimal loss would be read internally as a strong outcome rather than a setback.
For now, the shape of the deal is the sticking point, and it falls to the two clubs to settle whether this becomes a straight loan or something firmer.
