Milan have submitted their squad numbers ahead of Saturday's Serie A opener against Torino, and four names are missing from the list: Fikayo Tomori, Youssouf Fofana, Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez.
Squad-number lists filed for the first weekend are the closest thing to an early read on who is inside the project and who is being pushed towards the exit. This one leaves little ambiguity about where the club stands on several players, even if the list itself is not binding.
The register was lodged with Lega Serie A and, as the league's own note makes clear, remains open to change: "Lega Calcio Serie A announces the lists and updates made, as of today, to the 2026/2027 shirt numbers. This list refers exclusively to the shirt numbers of players registered with the Clubs and does not represent the list referred to in FIGC CU no. 245/A of 27 May 2026 (roster cap)."
Every player Milan intend to build around is present, Rafael Leão included. That last point carries a caveat worth stressing, since holding a number does not lock a player in place. Leão can still leave despite appearing on the list, so the presence of a number confirms nothing on its own. The absences, by contrast, are the clearer signal.
Tomori, Fofana and Nkunku have all been stripped of their numbers, marking them out as players Milan are willing to move on. Gimenez's case reads slightly differently: he has not been assigned a number either, with reports that the striker is currently training alone.
