Comotto spent last season on loan at Spezia in Serie B, where he impressed enough that another temporary move, this time to a Serie A club, seemed the logical next step for a teenager who needs regular minutes. The club's thinking has shifted, and two signals point to why.
The first is his contract. Comotto signed an extension until 2031 last week, a long-term deal that reads as a statement of intent rather than a routine renewal. The second came on Saturday, when he started the friendly against Celtic. Bianchin notes that Bologna have made enquiries but that nothing concrete has developed, and that the Celtic start was confirmation Milan see him as part of the picture now, not just down the line.
For a Milan fan the obvious question is where he actually fits, because the midfield is packed. That congestion is expected to ease with sales over the coming windows, which would open a route to minutes without a loan.
