Mike Maignan deleting every post from his Instagram set off a wave of speculation among supporters, but Casa Milan is not reading anything into it, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The panic is understandable given the history. Maignan let his previous deal run down to a single year before signing a new one, and a goalkeeper suddenly scrubbing his social media reads, to a nervous fanbase, like a man clearing out his desk. But the club's calm rests on something concrete: nobody from the player's side has called to signal a desire to leave. When Rafael Leão wanted a move engineered, that message arrived. With Maignan, the phone has stayed silent.
That distinction matters more than any Instagram grid. Maignan renewed until 2031 back in January, ending the very saga that had dragged on for the better part of a year, and both Gerry Cardinale and Ruben Amorim view him as untouchable. For Amorim he keeps the captaincy and remains the senior voice in the dressing room.
As for the photos, Gazzetta floats a few readings: a clean slate after a bruising season, or a rebranded communication approach ahead of the World Cup, along the lines of France teammate Michael Olise, though they concede that last idea is a stretch. The more human explanation is the simplest one. Maignan missed out on the Champions League with Milan finishing eighth last term, and he is chasing redemption with France next summer. Wiping the slate can just mean wanting a fresh start.
The bottom line is that Milan are not shopping for a new number one. Cardinale does not sell the players he considers the spine of the squad, and Gazzetta suggest only a genuinely enormous offer would even open a conversation. This is a group whose stated aim for the season is to win, and a settled, well-drilled Maignan is worth points on his own.
The one caveat worth keeping in mind is that January will be a full year on from the renewal, the point at which any interested club could test the waters without Milan holding all the leverage. For now, though, this is a story about a deleted photo album, not a transfer, and the decision on whether it ever becomes more than that sits with the player.
