Milan's senior side beat Milan Futuro 7-0 in a closed-doors friendly at Milanello on Sunday, the first proper hit-out of Ruben Amorim's pre-season.
It's only an in-house game, so the scoreline matters less than the minutes. This was Amorim's first chance to put bodies through a match situation before the real pre-season friendlies begin next weekend, and with the squad still short of a full complement it doubled as a workout for both groups. Sergio Navarro's Futuro side provided the opposition, which is the whole point of keeping a B-team down the corridor.
Amorim split the game cleanly, one XI in the first half and a completely different one in the second, which tells you the priority was game time over a settled shape.
The first-half side lined up as Torriani in goal; Tomori, Gabbia and Filippo Terracciano across the back; Athekame, Ricci, Musah and Bartesaghi in midfield; Ossola and Kostic behind Nkunku. That group won it 2-0, with Filip Kostic and Federico Ossola on the scoresheet.
The second-half XI brought on the bigger names and did most of the damage: Pittarella; Odogu, Gila, Pavlović; Chukwueze, Fofana, Comotto, Borsani; Loftus-Cheek, Guernier; Camarda. They added five, through Chukwueze, Pavlović, Camarda, Loftus-Cheek and Fofana.
The goals worth circling are the young ones. Francesco Camarda getting on the end of things is exactly what these sessions are for, and Andrej Kostic's name among the first-half scorers is the kind of detail that makes a low-stakes friendly worth watching for anyone tracking the academy pipeline.
One thing we genuinely can't confirm from behind closed doors is Futuro's shape, though the personnel in both of Navarro's line-ups point to a 4-3-2-1.
Seven goals against your own B-team proves nothing about the season ahead. It gets legs into legs, and that's all Amorim wanted from a Sunday in July.
