Luka Modric got his first preseason minutes under his belt against Inter and admitted Milan are still adjusting to the demands of their new coach.
The 39-year-old spent the early part of the summer as a question mark, with neither the fans nor the management sure he would stay for a second season. He settled that himself by signing a one-year renewal, and in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport published this morning he explained the thinking behind the extension.
Speaking to reporters at the Optus Stadium after the friendly, in comments relayed by Perth Now, Modric was pleased with the workout and with what he saw from the side.
"It was nice to get some minutes under the belt. I felt good I think it was a good match, and I hope the fans enjoyed. On the pitch we did a lot of good things and hopefully we can just improve," he said.
He also touched on the adjustment to Amorim's methods, and the sense that the group is still finding its way. "It's great to be here, second time in Australia first time in Perth. We are doing well so far; there are a lot of new ideas, and we need to adapt little by little and hopefully we will go better."
Preseason is the window for that bedding-in, and with a veteran of Modric's standing openly flagging the volume of new ideas, the coach has the clearest possible measure of how much work is left before the campaign begins.
