Luka Modric is on course to stay at Milan for another season, and Ruben Amorim is already planning the squad with him in it, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Modric arrived on a one-year deal with an option, and at 40 there was always going to be a conversation about whether a second season made sense for either side. The fact that Amorim is building around him tells you how central he has been to this team, not a veteran passenger but the player who has organised the midfield in a season where Milan have leaned heavily on his tempo control.
Speaking on his Italian YouTube channel, Romano said Amorim has started mapping out next season alongside the management and staff with Modric factored in. "He's also included in the plans. We're waiting for Modric's final signal, involving his family in the final decision, but he's very tempted and eager to join AC Milan. There's a lot of optimism."
Romano notes Modric's role may look slightly different in year two, which is the sensible read. Managing his minutes across a full campaign, especially with European football likely back on the calendar, is the obvious adjustment. What Milan cannot easily replace is the on-ball intelligence he brings to a midfield that still lacks a natural deep creator behind him.
The ball is with Modric and his family, but every signal from Milanello points the same way.
