Fikayo Tomori has returned to full training with the Milan group after staying at the club beyond deadline day, and he could be involved this weekend against Juventus.
The stay was not a straightforward one. Tomori has been linked with an exit in each of the last four windows, and he has turned down every chance to leave San Siro. This summer, according to Tuttosport, it was Gerry Cardinale who kept him at the club, choosing not to bring in another defender before the window shut.
Tomori had been placed among the excluded players after the market closed, as MilanNews reported, but he is now back working with the rest of the squad. That reintegration sits awkwardly against the earlier stance that sidelined players would not be brought back in.
Matteo Gabbia's injury problems have forced the issue. With cover short at the back, Tomori is expected to be named in the squad for the trip to face Juventus, a decision driven more by necessity than by any change of heart on his standing at the club.
Any conversation about his contract looks like one for further down the line, after another window in which his future was left unresolved.
From here, whether this becomes a genuine reset or a short-term fix depends on how the club handles Tomori once Gabbia is fit again.
