Francesco Camarda will remain part of the Milan first-team squad this season, with Andrej Kostic's loan departure clearing the path for the young striker to serve as a rotational option.
The decision follows a pre-season that put Camarda in the shop window. He caught the eye in training and in matches, doing enough to convince the club he belonged with the seniors while Kostic goes elsewhere to develop with regular minutes.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the doubts around Camarda have not gone away. Fabio Capello said earlier in the summer that the youngster cannot be expected to score every time he takes the pitch, and the broader question is whether he has enough starts behind him to step in as a secondary option up front.
The counter-argument sits in his record. Camarda has already featured in the Champions League for Milan on several occasions, so the stage itself is not new to him. Over the summer he took the chances he was given, including two goals against Celtic that showed a genuine striker's instinct in front of goal.
Ruben Amorim's view carries the most weight here, and the coach is not troubled by the age or the thin CV. He sees the raw tools for a reliable rotation piece, which is what Milan need behind their starting number 9 rather than a guaranteed 20-goal season.
Whether Camarda can settle the argument comes down to the minutes Amorim hands him, and the coach has already signalled he is willing to give them.
