Milan were denied a third straight win to open the season, pegged back by a late Juventus equaliser in a 1-1 draw, and the Italian papers have delivered their verdicts on a performance that only came alive in the second half.
A tight first half offered plenty of intensity but little quality. The game changed after the break when substitute Alphadjo Cisse cut inside onto his right and finished superbly to put the Rossoneri ahead, only for Federico Gatti to head Juventus level in added time.
La Gazzetta dello Sport rated Milan's overall display a 6, the same mark handed to Ruben Amorim for his handling of the match. Cisse was their standout with a 7, while Alexis Saelemaekers came off worst on a 5.
Elsewhere in the Gazzetta ratings, Mario Gila earned a 7, with 6.5s for Mike Maignan, Koni De Winter, Luka Modric and Samuel Chukwueze. The rest passed the test bar Diego Moreira, Pervis Estupiñan and Adrien Rabiot on 5.5, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on 5.
Corriere dello Sport went with a 7 for De Winter, matching the mark they gave to scorer Cisse. Maignan, Gila, Modric and Chukwueze all picked up 6.5s. Pavlović, Moreira, Rabiot and Loftus-Cheek were marked down at 5.5, with Ramos and Saelemaekers dropping to 5.
Tuttosport were the harshest on Ramos, Rabiot and Moreira, all handed 5s. Maignan, Modric and Chukwueze took 6.5s, while Cisse drew the highest mark of the morning with a 7.5. Pavlović, Musah, Estupiñan and Loftus-Cheek landed on 5.5, as did Amorim himself.
Across all three papers the picture is consistent: Cisse the one player to emerge with real credit, Chukwueze and Modric steady, and Loftus-Cheek among those who struggled on every card. For a young forward who entered off the bench and decided the moment, three sets of ratings pointing the same way is the kind of afternoon that earns a longer look from Amorim.
