AC Milan have officially confirmed that Christian Comotto has extended his contract until June 2031, with an option for a further season.
The renewal tells you where Milan see him. The midfielder is currently out on loan at Spezia, and the club had reportedly weighed keeping him around the first team after a strong pre-season tour last summer before deciding regular football in Serie B would serve him better. Tying him down on a long deal before that loan finishes is how you protect an asset you rate, not one you plan to let drift.
Comotto joined the academy in 2020 and worked his way up through the youth sides to the Primavera. This season he has made 28 appearances at Spezia, useful minutes for a young central midfielder cutting his teeth against senior professionals in a demanding second-tier promotion race.
The renewal landed the same afternoon as Francesco Camarda's, and the two announcements shared a telling detail. As with Camarda, there was no reference to Milan Futuro and no photo in front of the project's logo. Read into that what you will, but it points to the senior team being the intended destination rather than the B-side.
For a club that keeps producing talent and then watching it leave for nothing, locking Comotto in until 2031 is the sensible half of the equation. The harder half comes later, when Milan have to decide whether to actually give him the shirt.
