Milan have confirmed that Andrej Kostić will spend the 2026-27 season on loan at Sparta Rotterdam, sending the young forward to the Eredivisie for his first taste of senior football away from Serbia.
The move settles a question that had been open since his arrival. Kostić was signed from Partizan Belgrade before the end of last season and stayed on in Serbia to finish the campaign, where he reached double figures in league goals as a teenager. The choice was between blooding him at Milan Futuro in Serie D or finding him a step up abroad, and in the past 24 hours the loan option gained ground before Sparta Rotterdam moved ahead of the field.
Milan's statement kept it brief: "AC Milan can confirm that Andrej Kostić has joined Sparta Rotterdam on loan. The Club would like to wish Andrej all the best for the remainder of the season."
Sparta framed the arrival around what convinced them. The Dutch club, describing Kostić as "a great talent" within Milan, pointed to his "goal-scoring ability, physical strength, and depth in his game" as the reasons he stood out after his summer switch from Partizan.
Technical director Gerard Nijkamp explained the thinking behind the deal. "Andrej is a player who possesses many qualities that fit the profile we were looking for in our attack. Despite his young age, he already has extensive experience at the highest level," he said. "Last season, he played in 35 matches for Partizan and scored 11 goals. We are convinced that Sparta offers the right environment for him and we expect him to strengthen our attack."
The 19-year-old, born in Podgorica, will link up with head coach Rogier Meijer's squad once the necessary work and residence permits are issued.
For a striker who has never played outside Serbia, a season of regular Eredivisie minutes tells Milan far more than a Serie D campaign would. How Kostić handles it is the next thing to watch.
