Milan have officially signed wing-back Diego Moreira from Strasbourg on a five-year contract running until 30 June 2031.
The move ends a quiet spell on Milan's incoming business, which had opened with Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain, Mario Gila from Lazio and Sankhoun Diawara from Troyes before news of an agreement with Strasbourg surfaced on Monday. Moreira becomes the fourth arrival of the window.
The 22-year-old flew into Italy on Tuesday to begin his medical, and the club confirmed the deal on their website the following day. He will wear the No.22 shirt. Milan are adding a player who has already filled seven different roles in a career that has moved quickly across several countries.
Born in Liège on 6 August 2004, Moreira came through the youth ranks at Standard Liège and Benfica, where he won the UEFA Youth League with the Under-19s in 2021-22 and lifted the Under-20 Intercontinental Cup shortly after. He made his Champions League bow in the qualifying rounds of the 2022-23 edition before joining Chelsea in the summer of 2023, debuting on 30 August that year in a Carabao Cup tie against Wimbledon.
A loan spell at Olympique Lyonnais followed during 2023-24, before a permanent switch to Strasbourg in the summer of 2024. In Alsace he settled into regular football, and Milan describe him as having caught the eye through his pace, technical quality and tactical versatility.
Internationally, Moreira represented Portugal up to Under-21 level, appearing at the 2023 European Under-21 Championship. He has played for the Belgium senior side since 2025, making his debut in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup and then featuring at the tournament itself.
The fee was not disclosed in the club's announcement. What Milan have secured, on paper, is a young, adaptable full-back tied down for six seasons, the kind of long-term deal that gives a club room to develop and, if it works, resell at a profit.
The versatility is the selling point here. A player comfortable across seven positions gives the coach cover in more than one area of the pitch, which matters for a squad juggling a domestic and, potentially, European calendar.
From here, the question is where Moreira lines up first, and how quickly he can force his way into the rotation on the flank.
