Pervis Estupiñán may stay at Milan this season, with no message passed to his agent that the left-back needs to be sold, according to Fabrizio Romano.
That marks a shift from a few weeks ago, when an exit looked the likelier outcome. After a first season that fell flat, with Davide Bartesaghi taking minutes off him, plenty assumed Estupiñán would be moved on early in the window. Aston Villa registered interest, but Ruben Amorim wanted a proper look at him in pre-season before any call was made.
Romano reports that Milan recently sat down with Jorge Mendes to go over the rest of the mercato, covering the futures of Rafael Leão and Estupiñán as well as possible incomings. What came out of that meeting matters for the left-back: Milan did not tell Mendes that Estupiñán had to go.
The focus instead landed on Leão, who remains on his way out. With no instruction to sell Estupiñán, the Rossoneri now look ready to consider keeping him for the season rather than pushing for a sale.
There is early on-pitch backing for that read too. According to Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Estupiñán is set to start Milan's season opener against Torino tomorrow.
For a player written off weeks ago, a starting spot on opening day and no sell order to his agent is a firm sign Amorim wants to see more before deciding either way.
