Ruben Amorim has picked his first ever starting line-up as Milan head coach for tonight's friendly at Celtic Park.
This is a first proper look at how Amorim wants his Milan to line up, even if the personnel are nowhere near what we'll see on the opening weekend of Serie A. The friendly falls at an awkward point in the calendar for the two sides: Celtic kick off their league campaign in just over a week, so this is a full-strength dress rehearsal for them, while Amorim is still building fitness and handing minutes to squad players and academy kids. Amorim has stuck to the 3-4-2-1 that defined his Sporting side, and there are a few names that jump off the page. Lorenzo Torriani starts in goal behind a back three of Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlović. New arrival Mario Gila, signed to shore up that defence, begins on the bench.
Zachary Athekame and Davide Bartesaghi take the wing-back roles, the positions that make or break Amorim's shape. In midfield, Samuele Ricci partners Christian Comotto, who has just signed a renewal until 2031. That's a strong vote of confidence in the 20-year-old, and starting him in Amorim's double pivot on debut night says plenty about where the staff rate him.
Further forward, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lorenzo Ossola play as the two number tens behind Andrej Kostić, the striker who arrived from Partizan Belgrade and, by reports out of Milanello, has caught the eye in training. It's a rare early chance to see him lead the line.
